blue, darker and darker as the depth increases and the waves wrestle, pushing one another— wanting to be on top while i struggle to stay afloat, above bubbles of white foam tangled in the fighting movements of stubborn waves— blue, darker and darker as i try to stay awake amidst the pool in my lungs and the red in my eyes, the glistening waters suppress my face and hold onto my body, my fingers let go yet my throat gasps for air— it’s not there. just blue, darker and darker, like the skin on my lips, while my eyes fight to stay open and my hands grasp at nothing, the vast space suffocates me and forces the blood to pump in my veins. it stops.
